Our Story

Mike grew up within the boundaries of Merrick State Park in Fountain City, Wisconsin, a scenic spot along the banks of the upper Mississippi River. He learned early to love boating, exploring, swimming, biking, water skiing, ice skating, and snow skiing. Skiing was a rough business on wooden skis at a nearby icy bluff, elevation of 400 feet, but he fell in love with it anyway. His childhood dreams for the future were fueled by adventure stories, geeky A/V articles, and piles of guitar and ski magazines. These passions never left him even as he became a respected expert in thermal applications for the semiconductor industry in Silicon Valley.
Jas - that's me - grew up in a media family (Dad on the radio, Mom in the newspaper) in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, home of the G. Heileman Brewing Company where its 54-foot storage vats, fashioned to look like a giant six-pack, served as a reminder to "reach for your dreams!" I met Mike in high school choir. Our dates took place on boats, water skis, church pews, roller skates, snow skis, snow mobiles, mini bikes, tractors, bleachers, and picnic blankets. We married young and poor, put each other through college, had three kids, and moved to San Jose, California where I've enjoyed a career as a writer with credits in film, TV, video, and print.
In San Jose, we quickly discovered our family could be at the beach, redwood forests, or the Sierras in under four hours. This greatly added to our good times. Now our fun included camping and kayaking, wine-tasting and live music, photography and paddle boarding. Our family's grown, too. Today we share the good times with our three children, three in-law children, and a growing roster of grandchildren. Faith and family enrich our lives with joy and meaning and are the inspiration for our motto "Only Good Times".
After many years of traveling to Lake Tahoe to ski, we bought a home at the base of Heavenly Mountain. Life isn't all fun and play, but we eagerly seek out the precious experiences life has to offer and make the most of them together. We sincerely want that for you and yours, too. That's why we're opening our photo album, our best recipes, our travel tips, and our hearts to you. May you have only good times!
